چکیده

We examine how the regional supply of education affects the schooling choices of young people. We use rich individual-level data on 4 cohorts of Finns leaving comprehensive school in 2000-2003 to study the sorting of individuals across 8 schooling alternatives (gymnasium, 7 vocational fields) and the option of not to study. We use discrete choice models with random coefficients, allowing for heterogeneous preferences. We find that the distance to the nearest educational institute offering an alternative has a statistically significant effect on the choice of a schooling alternative. The estimated effect is larger for boys than girls. The demand estimates can be used to investigate various policy counterfactuals (work in progress). Under the counterfactual scenario of no supply constraints, we find that a large fraction of individuals would move away from the choice of gymnasium to vocational fields. Quantitatively, we can also see some interesting results when comparing girls and boys, those from lowand high-income families and individuals with low and high gpas.

Multi-objective robust optimization model for social responsible closed-loop supply chain solved by non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm

In this study a supply chain network design model has been developed considering both forward and reverse flows through the supply chain. Total Cost, environmental factors such as CO2 emission, and social factors such as employment and fairness in providing job opportunities are considered in three separate objective functions. The model seeks to optimize the facility location proble...

Medical student selection and society: Lessons we learned from so-ciological theories

The aim of this study was to show the interaction between the society, applicants and medical schools in terms of medical student selection. In this study, the trends to implement social factors in the selection process were highlighted. These social factors were explored through functionalism and conflict theories, each focusing on different categories of social factors. While functionalist th...

A multi-objective evolutionary approach for integrated production-distribution planning problem in a supply chain network

Integrated production-distribution planning (PDP) is one of the most important approaches in supply chain networks. We consider a supply chain network (SCN) to consist of multi suppliers, plants, distribution centers (DCs), and retailers. A bi-objective mixed integer linear programming model for integrating production-distribution designed here aim to simultaneously minimize total net costs in ...
